Qutub Minar

Published date: 21/05/2025

Hey guys, I won’t be talking here about what is Qutub Minar and its specifications. We already have a lot of stuff for this on internet.

I’m gonna tell you like how I came across this beautiful historic archeological place without any planning. So, hold tight, let’s start this journey!

I was on my way to office in Gurgaon for a laptop replacement. Although my office has a carrier policy but then it would have taken a week around to deliver so I thought to just travel from my home town to office location and return the other day. I remember, first time when I visited office, it took me nearly 4 hours to reach from Delhi. So, this time I planned some buffer time with me so that I don’t miss my return train.

But this time my laptop replacement was done way before the time and hence I was left with plenty of time therefore, I started thinking how I can utilize this time and then the back route of metro grabs my attention where I noticed Qutub Minar as a station in my return route.

As I was already running 5-6 hours ahead of time, I decided to visit Qutub Minar. This is where my Qutub Minar journey starts:

While I was travelling to Qutub Minar station, I was just having one thought in mind that I’m going to see a tall pillar of stones, as in general this is what comes first and last in our mind when someone says Qutub Minar. But this myth was just about the break.

Qutub Minar station is not a crowded station as Rajeev choak or any other and just outside station you’ll see long queue of autos ready to take you to Qutub Minar. I was excited as I was progressing and my journey towards Qutub Minar but I need to be cautious too as this was totally a new place for me.

With ₹20 fare, auto will take you to Qutub Minar but be vigilant as some auto persons charge more money whenever they realize that customer is new to place. I usually do one of the two things to know the actual convenience price. Either talk to police or security person if you see any around the station or just look for any local shop and get information from there.

While you’re in auto you will get a chance to observe the greenery of the city. It is so green and clean that I was not expecting but optimistically surprise to witness. Seeing the existence of co-passengers in auto, City greenery and cleanliness all those were making me feel happiness with an optimistic vibe. Auto will take around 10 to 15 minutes to reach destination.

When I reached destination, my eyes started looking for ticketing area and in no time, I went there but there was a long queue for tickets and also ticket seller was not having change for cash as he was saying loud for change before giving ticket. Then while confirming the fare to a man beside the ticket window he guided me for booking tickets online and that was the best method.

Soon I noticed an advertisement board outside ticket house promoting for online ticketing. I followed the instruction on that board and it confirmed my tickets there; the fare was ₹35/-.

I started moving towards entrance gate with a bottle of water and the vibes that I was started getting was just awesome although some might think that it’s a historic place only but still. .

Moving ahead of ticket checker, my eyes started looking for Qatar Minar but yes still it was few meters away. While moving one stone stand grabs my attention which was briefing about Qutub Minar.

While I was going through the brief, at the back of my mind I was started getting glimpse of what I have read way back in my school books, about those names, they were as it is there. And I also wonder how much efforts the people of that time have put on for this beautiful monument when there was no technological development existing.

Moving ahead, at right hand side, I noticed a short structure. At first instance, I thought it is something which was destroyed but then besides that there was also a stand for briefing about the structure.

Being an incomplete structure, the stones were beautifully aligned with each other with the help of black cement type material and somewhere it is just soil. With these types of things, I started wondering how it might have looked when would be fully complete and with this material, would it have sustained itself for this long? Then, I thought to take a circle of this structure, this is when I saw Qutub Minar. From the back of this tower, you can see this and Qutub Minar together.

Now, moving from this place towards Qutub Minar. While approaching, I noticed some structures on the way. Don’t know exactly what are they but they were looking good. At some places, these structures were having roof but on other places they were open.

Qutub Minar is huge. I was really not expecting this tower to be this much big. This tower was so well crafted with stones, with proper sequence. When I went near to this tower, I saw various well-crafted design and Urdu text written on it. It looks beautiful. From here onwards, whatever I was seeing was just mesmerizing.

On the left of the Qutub Minar, one entrance with eye caching carvings attracts me, that was Alai Darwaja.

Towards Alai Darwaja, there is one structure looks like mahal with four entrances from four sides along with beautiful carvings.

There were some more structure following the same. Seeing them feels like ruler wanted to extent the boundary but couldn’t due to unknown reasons.

Khali madarsa is situated at right hand side of these structures. This place is kept simple as compare to other places.

While going through this place, I was wondering at one time people might have come to this place to study and now this is empty. And same will be followed on us.

Moving on to the next place which is Tom of Iltumish of the ruler.

At this place, I thought I have covered all the places but one important place is still remaining because of which, we were able to witness such beautiful monuments. While returning, a structure caught my attention. Going closer, got to know that it was a sun dial in the memory of an excavator, Sanderson.

Guys, this is all about my journey to Qutub Minar, for me it was like linking what I have read back in school to reality kind of experience.
